OUR CLINIC
Christchurch Colon Therapy clinic uses the closed method of colonic
irrigation called the Brunelle method. This method stimulates the whole
colon to defecate on its own without water pressure, which is present in
open systems.
Dr Roy De Welles developed the De Welles apparatus in Anaheim,
California, USA 1937, (which was then modified and modernized to reflect
technical advancements by John Bruniges, later combining to become the "Brunelle"
Apparatus.) This method incorporated pure medical oxygen which mixed
with the water prior to entering the colon (see Colon Therapy Chart
picture).

The features of the Brunelle apparatus are:
- It is gravity fed (does not have a pump)
- It is attached to a normal water supply
- It has a water temperature control
- It has both an inlet and an outlet tap for total
water control
- The outlet hose is able to be pulsated at
specific zones of the colon
- It has a viewing tube which allows the
monitoring of waste matter
A major feature of the Brunelle apparatus, which is very
important, and overlooked by other colonic irrigation methods,
is that the therapist is able to pulsate the outlet hose at ten
specific divisions, which correspond to specific colon zones.
The Brunelle method divides the colon into 10 zones. Pulsating
the hose at a specific division will agitate the water inside
the colon at the corresponding zone. This would help rectify a
problem a problem in this colon zone, which in turn would help
rectify the problem at the body?s reflex point. This is where
the difference is made between good colon therapy and enemas.
Some colonic therapists tend to fill the colon with water and
massage on the exterior part of the abdomen, which will break up
fecal lumps. However, this is not doing much more than giving an
enema. It is found that with the Brunelle method, the abdominal
exterior massage is only necessary when some gas or wind has
been trapped in the colon and needs to be helped with its
passage to the anus to be expelled.
